Sex Therapy
Does the thought of discussing your sex life with a total stranger make you feel anxious? If so, then you are not alone!
Like so many clients I work with, you probably grew up in a home where nobody talked about the taboo topic of sex! Maybe you grew up in a church or faith-based environment where you learned to associate sex with something shameful or “bad.” Perhaps your earliest experiences with sexual touch and nudity were exploitive or abusive in nature. All of these scenarios have the potential to significantly impact your sexual development.
Since there are many things that can get in the way of your ability to enjoy the full experience of healthy sexuality, it is important to approach sexual struggles from a wholistic or bio/psycho/social perspective. Sex therapy is a specialized practice of therapeutic treatment that focuses on addressing the psychological and social aspects of sexual barriers. We begin by completing an in depth assessment process to determine and fully understand the nature of your sexual struggles and then devise a treatment plan uniquely fashioned to address your needs.
Some common conditions addressed in sex therapy are low desire, arousal disorders, sexual abuse/trauma, sexual pain, sexual dysfunction, sexual identity, sexual compulsivity/addiction, and sexual betrayal.
Achieving your goals for healthy sexuality is truly a matter that affects your overall quality of life.
